Fundraising at Rowntree
On Saturday, June 15th we brought back our Ham & Strawberry Dinner. The interest in this event far exceeded our expectations and the dinner was declared “Sold Out” when we reached 90 tickets sold, netting $1,326.20. Many volunteers were needed to pull off this event.
Our 3rd Annual Fall Fling Yard & Bake Sale took place on Saturday, September 7th from 9:00 a.m. to noon as part of the Carling Neighbourhood Yard Sale. We were grateful that the Brampton entrance was complete to allow access to the lift and the gym. It was a very rainy morning, but we were dry inside, unlike many of our neighbours. So far, this event has raised $1,087 with more coming from jam and bake table sales to be added. Again, this event would not be possible without the contributions of yard sale items, books, baking and the support of all our wonderful volunteers.
Saturday, November 30th Poinsettia Bazaar
Our Poinsettia Bazaar was held on Saturday, November 30th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The baking and deli table were downstairs in the Friendship Hall with the lunchroom and the books stayed in the kindergarten room. This arrangement was less work for set-up and encouraged movement throughout the building. Crafts, treasures, and the Toonie Table filled the space in the gym. We were happy to welcome the Lindsays back with their craft table this year and we had an additional vendor with Gloria’s jewelry table. Gloria plays pickleball regularly at Rowntree and thus has a connection with the church in that way and generously donated a portion of her sales to the bazaar. Also of note, our jams were a hit again this year with the surprise big seller being our new Merry Christmas Jam. Funds are still coming in, but I would expect it to be between $3,500 and $4,000 after expenses. Most importantly, while it was a busy time, this event also fosters fellowship within our congregation and the community. Many shoppers commented on our reasonable prices and friendly, helpful volunteers with assurances that they will return next year.
Despite the wintry weather, road conditions and a snow-clogged parking lot, the Forest City Singers present “Christmas Songbook” drew over 60 music-lovers to the concert on Friday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. After the concert, refreshments were served in the gym where there was a little more elbow room for people to mingle. All considered, it was a successful event with 60% of the tickets being sold at the door. After expenses, it netted just under $1,200.
